Photo by Moose Photos on Pexels

In recent years, there has been a massive boost of people turning to side hustle clubs from all over the world. With almost every other person wanting to work from the comfort of their own homes and for their own self, not some big corporate head.

I mean 9 to 5 jobs aren’t easy, besides decreasing employment opportunities and increasing layoffs are not helping either. Inflation? I don’t even wanna go there.

With this boost, more and more people are turning to the internet to find ways to make money online, me obviously being one of them from the beginning of time. Okay, I’m just being dramatic now.

While there are many opportunities to make money online, I know very well how overwhelming it is to sift through the abundance of information available on this topic and determine which options are legitimate and would work for you.

Honestly, nowadays most of the information on available on the internet that covers this topic looks something like :

1. Do freelancing — Where do I get the clients as a beginner from?
2. Affiliate Marketing —Where would I market the content? I don’t have an audience or an email list with thousands of people on it.
3. YouTube? — Hello, I’m just a writer and Shy. So, Nada.
4. Sell digital products — What should I sell and where exactly?
5. Drop Shipping, online tutoring, consulting, watch ads, Fill surveys, etc.

I’m seriously bored of seeing the same things pop up on my screen again and again. I am in no words saying the above mentioned things don’t work, they definitely do. Not only do they work but some people make crazy money from them.

What I’m trying to say is, they simply didn’t work for me and I’m sure there are thousands if not millions of people like me out there, who are looking for something different to try their hands at too.

That’s where my experience and this article comes handy. Those articles made me realize, I shouldn’t let my experience go in vain. The good, the bad, the average, I have tried it all.

As a human guinea pig of the side hustle club, I’m sure I’d be able to provide a realistic and a little different take on this topic.

In this guide, I have compiled a list of 10 realistic and legitimate ways to make money online from home in 2023.

Whether you’re looking for a side hustle to supplement your income or a full-time gig, there’s something on this list for everyone. Most of the things that I have mentioned on this list have been tried personally by me.

So sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s dive into the world of making money online in 2023.

1. Blogging.

‘Wait, I thought you said something unique but that’s the most common side hustle I can find online.’ Having a thought like this? Well, sorry to put you down.

I had to mention blogging on this list, as that’s the primary source of my income. I started my first blog in 2020, with no experience, no expensive software, or courses and my most recent one in February 2023.

Therefore, it’s safe to say blogging still works like magic even now. Plus, I have never done backlink outreach, so there’s that.

Let me know if you’re interested to know more about my blogging journey. As a case study, I have also started one blog in January which is completely AI Based. With zero editing in the content, as of now it has 50+ posts.

For $20 a month, you can host upto 5 websites together, at the same cost. If your plan in to diversify your business in the future, then I would recommend this to you as well.

But if you just want to start a single one, then bluehost’s basic plan is the cheaper option. Other options include hostinger, WordPress, GoDaddy etc

Use images and other multimedia to break up your content and make it more visually appealing. Don’t forget to check the articles that are already ranking for your targeted keywords and write a piece that is even better than those.

Build an audience: Once you’ve created quality content, you need to build an audience. Use social media like pinterest and other marketing strategies to promote your blog and attract new readers.

Engage with your audience by responding to comments and emails, and create a sense of community around your blog.

Investing is a popular way to make money, but it does come with some risks. Here are some tips for investing to make money:

Start with a plan: Before investing any money, create a plan that outlines your goals and risk tolerance. Determine how much you’re willing to invest, and develop a strategy for managing your investments.

Diversify your portfolio: Don’t put all your money into one investment. Instead, spread your investments across different asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate. This helps to reduce your risk and increase your chances of making money.

Research before investing: Before investing in any company or asset, do your research. Look at the company’s financials, read news articles, and study market trends. This will help you make informed investment decisions.

Consider index funds: Index funds are a type of mutual fund that tracks a market index, such as the S&P 500. They offer broad exposure to the market and typically have lower fees than actively managed funds.

Hold for the long-term: Investing is a long-term game, and it’s important to have patience. Don’t panic if the market dips or your investments experience short-term losses. Hold onto your investments and let them grow over time.

Get help if needed: If you’re new to investing or feel overwhelmed, consider getting help from a financial advisor or using a robo-advisor. These services can help you create a personalized investment plan and manage your portfolio for you.

8. Buying and selling domains.

Buying and selling domain names, also known as domain flipping, can be a lucrative way to make money online. Here are some tips for buying and selling domain names:

Research potential domains: Look for domains that have potential for high demand or could be used by a business or individual. Conduct keyword research to find popular terms and phrases that could be used in domain names.

Buy low, sell high: The goal of domain flipping is to buy a domain at a low price and sell it for a higher price. Look for domains that are undervalued or being sold for a low price, and try to negotiate a lower price when possible.

Register new domains: Consider registering new domain names that could be in high demand in the future. This could include names related to emerging industries or trends.

List domains for sale: Once you have a domain name, list it for sale on domain marketplaces like Sedo or GoDaddy. You can also reach out to potential buyers directly.

Be patient: Domain flipping can take time and requires patience. Some domains may take months or even years to sell, so be prepared to hold onto them until the right buyer comes along.

Understand the market: Stay up-to-date on the domain market and trends. This will help you make informed decisions and identify potentially valuable domains.

9. Selling Websites with zero traffic.

This is something I’m yet to try my hands at, given I just got my attention on it.

Quick Back story — Just a few weeks ago, I got an email where someone was trying to sell me their website, with zero traffic but 45 or something quality posts for $400.

I didn’t pay much attention to it at that time, but recently it sparked my interest, I responded back to enquire more about the site but by then it was already sold.

Then I surfed through flippa, a marketplace for selling and buying websites and found many of such sites listed on there with plenty of bids too. That’s how I know selling a website with zero traffic is totally something that can be done.

Website flipping has big money, but it takes a lot of time and patience plus big chunks of cash on outsourcing too. On the other hand, flipping a domain may be a little hard, plus on average you can’t make much money on the sale on one or even a few domains.

I have been experimenting on this front and am in the process of actually trying this side hustle out myself. Here’s my take on how you can do this too —

Choose a profitable niche: Select a niche that has high potential for profitability, even if your website has zero traffic. Look for niches that have high search volume, low competition, and high demand.

Create a professional design: Even if your website has no traffic, it’s important to make it look professional and attractive. Use high-quality images, clear navigation, and a clean layout to make your website appealing to potential buyers.

Develop quality content: Create high-quality content that provides value to your target audience. This can include blog posts, tutorials, videos, and other resources that are relevant to your niche.

Monetize your website: Even if your website has no traffic, you can still monetize it through affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, or other revenue streams. Show potential buyers how your website can generate income, even with zero traffic.

Build a strong social media presence: Use social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to build a following and promote your website. This can help attract potential buyers and increase the value of your website.

Use a reputable website marketplace: List your website for sale on reputable website marketplaces like Flippa. This platforms can connect you with potential buyers and help you sell your website for a fair price.

Focus on creating a valuable niche website, monetizing it effectively, and promoting it through social media and reputable marketplaces. With time and effort, you can find the right buyer and sell your website for a profitable price.

At the end of the day I would say it depends on your time, pocket and preference whether you want to do domain flipping, normal website flipping or zero traffic website flipping. Here are some attributes of them all —

Domain flipping.

  • It’s the quickest out of them all.
    Takes normal efforts.
  • Doesn’t promise high profit margin.
  • Would require you to sell 40-50 domains (if selling at average price) to make a decent income.

Website flipping zero traffic.

  • It takes average time to start a website and then publish quality posts on it.
  • You can either write them yourself or outsource some content.
  • Has decent profit margin.
  • Would require you to sell 2-3 websites per month to make decent Money.

Website flipping traffic.

  • It takes a lot of your time, efforts as well as money to work.
  • Has a profit margin of 30/50x
  • Depending upon the traffic and money your website makes monthly, you can make a lot of good income.

10. Create a Course.

I have mentioned nine different side hustles in the list above, pick one or two of them according to your preference, and try your best to make decent Money from it.

Afterwards, create a course on how you did it and sell it for more bucks.

That’s exactly what most of the people in this industry do. I’m sure this course would make you even more money than your primary side hustle, so it’s win-win.

You may also skip the queue and directly jump to creating a course on something that you already are an expert of, Here are some tips for creating courses to sell:

Identify your niche: Choose a topic that you have expertise in. Identify a specific niche within that topic that you can target.

Research your market: Before creating your course, research your target audience to understand their needs and preferences. Look for gaps in the market that you can fill with your course.

Plan your content: Develop a comprehensive outline for your course, including the topics you’ll cover, the materials you’ll need, and the learning objectives for your students.

Create high-quality content: Invest in creating high-quality content, including videos, presentations, quizzes, and interactive exercises. Make sure that your course is engaging and interactive to keep your students interested.

Set a competitive price: Research the prices of similar courses in your niche, and set a price that is competitive but also reflects the value of your course.

Social media : Use Pinterest, twitter or LinkedIn to market your course.

Get feedback: Encourage your students to provide feedback on your course, and use that feedback to improve your course for future students.

As mentioned earlier, you can publish your course on a platform like Coursera.
